Abasa · 1
1
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
And Hellfire will be exposed for [all] those who see -
Meccan
80. Abasa
عبس · He Frowned · 42 ayahs
Abasa · 2
2
أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ
So as for he who transgressed
Abasa · 3
3
وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
And preferred the life of the world,
Abasa · 4
4
أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ
Then indeed, Hellfire will be [his] refuge.
Abasa · 5
5
أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
But as for he who feared the position of his Lord [1] and prevented the soul from [unlawful] inclination,
Abasa · 6
6
فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
Then indeed, Paradise will be [his] refuge.
Abasa · 7
7
وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival? [1]
Abasa · 8
8
وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ
In what [position] are you that you should mention it? [1]
Abasa · 9
9
وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ
To your Lord is its finality. [1]
Abasa · 10
10
فَأَنتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
You are only a warner for those who fear it.
Abasa · 11
11
كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ
It will be, on the Day they see it, [1] as though they had not remained [in the world] except for an afternoon or a morning thereof.
Abasa · 12
12
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
He [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ) ] frowned and turned away
Abasa · 13
13
فِى صُحُفٍ مُّكَرَّمَةٍ
Because there came to him the blind man, [1] [interrupting].
Abasa · 14
14
مَّرْفُوعَةٍ مُّطَهَّرَةٍۭ
But what would make you perceive, [O Muḥammad], that perhaps he might be purified [1]
Abasa · 15
15
بِأَيْدِى سَفَرَةٍ
Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?
Abasa · 16
16
كِرَامٍۭ بَرَرَةٍ
As for he who thinks himself without need, [1]
Abasa · 17
17
قُتِلَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَآ أَكْفَرَهُۥ
To him you give attention.
Abasa · 18
18
مِنْ أَىِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. [1]
Abasa · 19
19
مِن نُّطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]
Abasa · 20
20
ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
While he fears [Allāh],
Abasa · 21
21
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقْبَرَهُۥ
From him you are distracted.
Abasa · 22
22
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
No! Indeed, they [i.e., these verses] are a reminder;
Abasa · 23
23
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
So whoever wills may remember it. [1]
Abasa · 24
24
فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
[It is recorded] in honored sheets,
Abasa · 25
25
أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا ٱلْمَآءَ صَبًّا
Exalted and purified,
Abasa · 26
26
ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ شَقًّا
[Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels,
Abasa · 27
27
فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا
Noble and dutiful.
Abasa · 28
28
وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا
Destroyed [i.e., cursed] is man; [1] how disbelieving is he.
Abasa · 29
29
وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا
From what thing [i.e., substance] did He create him?
Abasa · 30
30
وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلْبًا
From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; [1]
Abasa · 31
31
وَفَـٰكِهَةً وَأَبًّا
Then He eased the way for him; [1]
Abasa · 32
32
مَّتَـٰعًا لَّكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَـٰمِكُمْ
Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. [1]
Abasa · 33
33
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
Then when He wills, He will resurrect him.
Abasa · 34
34
يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ
No! He [i.e., man] has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.
Abasa · 35
35
وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
Then let mankind look at his food -
Abasa · 36
36
وَصَـٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
How We poured down water in torrents,
Abasa · 37
37
لِكُلِّ ٱمْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ
Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts],
Abasa · 38
38
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ
And caused to grow within it grain
Abasa · 39
39
ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ
And grapes and herbage
Abasa · 40
40
وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ
And olive and palm trees
Abasa · 41
41
تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
And gardens of dense shrubbery
Abasa · 42
42
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَفَرَةُ ٱلْفَجَرَةُ
And fruit and grass -
