Divine Preservation — Al-Hijr 15:9

The Verse

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَٰفِظُونَ

"Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran, and indeed, We will be its guardian." — Al-Hijr 15:9

The Claim

This verse makes a unique assertion among world scriptures: God Himself guarantees the preservation of this text. Not "the believers will preserve it." Not "a king will protect it." We will be its Guardian.

The Historical Record

Consider the fate of other revelations:

  • Torah — reconstructed from multiple sources (J, E, D, P) over centuries; original text lost.
  • Gospel — four divergent accounts compiled 40–100 years after Jesus, with thousands of variant readings across manuscripts.
  • Vedas — transmitted orally for millennia before being written; content varies by region.

The Quran is different. It was:

  1. Written down during the Prophet's lifetime by scribes (Zayd ibn Thabit and others).
  2. Memorized in full by hundreds of companions — a practice that continues to this day.
  3. Standardized under Caliph Uthman (RA) within 20 years of the Prophet's death, with copies sent to major cities.
  4. Verified continuously by the ijazah system — an unbroken chain of memorizers back to the Prophet ﷺ.

The Living Miracle

Today, there are over 10 million huffāẓ (people who have memorized all 6,236 ayahs, letter-perfect). This is unique among any book on Earth.

The Birmingham manuscript (radiocarbon-dated to 568–645 CE) matches the modern Quran — a physical link to the 7th century that confirms the Quran's textual integrity.

The Numerical Precision

Every Quran in the world — printed in Cairo, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, or New York — has exactly the same 6,236 ayahs, same order, same diacritics. Any deviation is instantly caught by any memorizer. This is what divine guardianship looks like in practice.
